OUR HISTORY

The Organ Receiving & Giving Awareness Network (ORGAN) India was launched in March 2013 as an initiative of the Parashar Foundation, an NGO based in Delhi.

The Parashar Foundation was set up in 2005 by late Shri Ashok Parashar to help the poor and less-fortunate by providing funds to various schools, health centers, and other organizations. While our previous work was primarily in the form of donations to various causes, we now have a clear goal – to create widespread awareness on organ donation in India.

The reason for this is personal. Our former Chairperson, Late Mrs. Kirti Parashar, was told in 2012 that she needed a heart transplant. Although she had the means, the best doctors, and a family who supported her, there was no one organization they could turn to for the most basic help on what to do, where to go, how things work. The wait in Delhi for a heart transplant could have been endless. At the time, there was little awareness on organ donation. Kirti Parashar eventually moved to Chennai, Tamil Nadu, to wait for a new heart, which she thankfully received from an organ donor on December 13th.

Since 2013, the Foundation has focused on creating awareness on Organ Donation under ORGAN (Organ Receiving & Giving Awareness Network) India.

ORGAN India is also fully supported by the Vijaya Gujral Foundation, an NGO based in Delhi.
