Post Sergery – Things You Need To Know

Patients with successful hand transplants can expect to have good motor function and reasonable sensory recovery. However, the time taken for the recovery is variable and depends on the level at which the transplant is done.

The patient must:

  • Undergo rigorous and regular physiotherapy in the post-operative period to achieve good hand function.
  • He/she must take immunosuppressive medications on a daily basis throughout their lifetime.
  • He/she must take precautions to avoid infections and other potential complicationsdue to immunosuppression. They must perform investigations and maintain a regular follow-up with the transplant team for close monitoring.
