On May 07, 2014 an awareness session on organ donation and transplantation was conducted by with Organ Receiving and Giving Awareness Network (ORGAN) India – an initiative of the Parashar Foundation in partnership with MOHAN Foundation, Delhi-NCR. The session was at the corporate office of Select Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd, Select City Walk Mall, Saket, New Delhi.
The session was organized by Ms Sunayana Arora, ORGAN India and Ms Ira Sharma, Manager-HR, Select Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd.
Select City walk is a premier shopping mall located in the Saket District Centre, Saket, New Delhi and is spread over 6 acres. It opened to the public in October 2007 and is the first large scale shopping mall to open in South Delhi.
The session was taken by Dr. Muneet Sahi, Senior Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation and was a very interactive and informative one. It covered topics like organ donation and the need for it, the concept of brain death, difference between coma and brain death, various tests confirming brain death, apnoea test, legal aspects related to organ donation, myths and the hurdles faced in the area of organ donation. She also spoke of the role ORGAN India and the MOHAN Foundation in the field of organ donation.
The attendees listened attentively and appreciated the way the talk was conducted. There was also constant participation from all those present.
There was a brief question-answer session at the end of the talk followed by distribution of the donor cards. Out of the 19 attendees, 6 of them pledged their organs. We prefer not the sing donor cards right after a presentation unless the person is very sure of it. It’s always better if those who have been introduced to organ donation for the first time, take a day or two to decide if this is what they want to do. They are then free to log on to our website address given in our brochures, and sign up for donor cards. Those cards are then mailed to them by ORGAN India.
