Rotary E-Club of Organ Donation UK, in partnership with ORGAN India & Team India, supported by Sahauk, proudly hosted a Celebration and Awareness Event as part of UK Organ Donation Awareness Week on Wednesday, 24th September 2025 (15:00–16:30 BST | 19:30–21:00 IST).
The event highlighted the incredible work being done by ORGAN India to spread awareness about organ donation and to celebrate the achievements of Team India at the World Transplant Games (WTG).
Sunayana Singh, CEO of ORGAN India and Country Representative from India at the World Transplant Games Federation, spoke about the organization’s ongoing initiatives and shared insights on preparations for Team India’s participation at the upcoming WTG Perth, as well as reflections on the team’s success in Dresden. Shankar Arora, Team Manager of the Indian Transplant Team, spoke on the team’s outstanding performance in Dresden. Athletes including Varun Anand, Deepa Anand, and Anand Anantharaman, who together brought home an incredible 13 medals as a family, shared their inspiring transplant journeys and sporting experiences.
Ishaan Anekar and his donor-athlete father, Anant Anekar, were present, along with medallists Mithun Ashok (darts), Raj Sarki (200m race), and golfer Amit Prasad, all of whom represented India with distinction.
International voices also enriched the event. Liz Schick, President of the World Transplant Games Federation, spoke on the message that the World Transplant Games sent to people and commended Team India’s remarkable spirit and contribution to the Games. Lynne Holt, manager of Team England, shared her experiences and deep admiration for the camaraderie and performance of Team India. The session also highlighted the work of Sahauk, led by Mr. Kirit Mistry, in advancing organ donation awareness in the UK.This celebration not only honoured India’s medal-winning athletes but also reinforced the power of organ donation in giving people a second chance at life and achievement.
