The 5th Collaborative Conclave on Organ Donation for NGOs and government bodies took place on Sunday, August 4th, at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi. ORGAN India, under the auspices of the National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO), organised this significant event, which was attended by over 16 NGOs and key stakeholders, including NOTTO, ROTTO North, ROTTO/SOTTO West, SOTTO MP, SOTTO J&K, ZTCC Pune, the Appropriate Authority of Rajasthan, and members of India’s Transplant Sports Team. National, regional, governmental, and non-governmental stakeholders convened under one umbrella to discuss critical issues, challenges, and potential solutions within the organ donation ecosystem.
The Conclave was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) Atul Goel, Director General of Health Services, MoHFW, GOI. Other distinguished guests included Dr. Anil Kumar, Director of NOTTO; Prof. (Dr.) Vipin Kaushal from ROTTO North; Ms. Anika Parashar, Chairperson of the Parashar Foundation; and Ms. Eeda Gujral Chopra, Trustee of the Vijaya Gujral Foundation.
Also present were Dr. Harsha Jauhari, Chairman of Renal Transplantation at Sir Gangaram Hospital, and Ms. Shivani Sahgal, Trustee of the Vijaya Gujral Foundation. NGOs from states such as Assam, Gujarat, Karnataka, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Delhi, and Maharashtra participated in the discussions. These conversations centred on reforms in technology, processes, and legislation to create a more transparent National Policy on Organ Donation and Transplantation. The suggestions generated during the Conclave will be taken into consideration at NOTTO’s Chintan Shivir later this month. We extend our gratitude to Dr. Anil Kumar, Director of NOTTO, and his entire team, as well as to the Trustees of the Parashar Foundation, the Vijaya Gujral Foundation, and the ORGAN India Team for orchestrating this fantastic event.
