ORGAN India is actively involved in advocacy and lobbying with the Government authorities as well as with other organisations. We keep holding regular consultations with National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO), the apex Government body in India dealing with matters of organ and tissue transplant.

We also maintain regular touch with Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Hospitals, Medical colleges & universities, other NGOs, and media to further our cause.

Collaborative Conclave for Organ Donation

The Collaborative Conclave for Organ Donation is as a common platform for the all the NGOs working on organ donation in India, organised annually by ORGAN India. We firmly believe that a combined force of all NGOs across India, working together to spread awareness on organ donation to all corners of the country is the best way to move forward.

Objectives of the Collaborative Conclave:

  • Network building – a platform for open dialogue and brainstorming between members of NGOs and Government representatives.
  • Information exchange – NGOs share their successes, achievements and best-practices with each other and the Government.
  • Identify, discuss and solve the challenges – felicitating cooperation between all stakeholders to find solutions to challenges faced.
  • Strategize – focusing on the same goals, and use combined network to reach out to millions of people in all parts of India.

ORGAN India took the lead and organised the First Conclave for Organ Donation on December 1, 2016 in collaboration with National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO). The Conclave was a first event of its kind, where NOTTO and 14 NGOs got together under the same umbrella to discuss the existing framework, agenda, plan of action, challenges and issues etc faced by different organisations working to further the cause of Organ donation. The Conclave was a huge success and was attended by 50 people from NOTTO, Ministry of Health and Family welfare, various NGOs, media, Transplant coordinators etc from all over India.

Lobbying with State Government to introduce Organ Donation in school curriculum.

ORGAN India has taken the lead in Delhi to approach the Government of Delhi through the Directorate of Education Department to conduct awareness sessions on Organ Donation in all schools of Delhi – Government, Private and Kendriya Vidyalaya.

In May 2017, The Directorate of Education, GNCT Delhi issued a directive to all schools to invite ORGAN India to conduct awareness sessions.

We are also in talks with the State Government to introduce a chapter on organ donation in the school textbooks of children.

Lobbying with Central Government for funding for NGOs

ORGAN India has been lobbying with NOTTO, the Government apex body to receive funding for NGOs, as all the NGOs have been working relentlessly with little funds. Looking at the national statistics, organ donation and its awareness needs to be a priority for the Indian Government, and funds needs to be diverted towards the social agents working towards it.
