Transplant Guide – An Aid To Organ Transplants

ORGAN, India is pleased to announce the launch of our Transplant Guide, an all-inclusive virtual handbook of all transplant centres in India, along with related information a transplant patient may require.

WHY WE CREATED THE GUIDE
Apart from the guidance we regularly give to transplant recipients who call on our helplines or get in touch with us on where to go and what to do in the case of organ failure, we felt that we needed to facilitate their transplant journey by giving them a comprehensive road map.

There is a very personal reason why we have made it our mission to help transplant patients. Our own Trustee, Mrs. Kirti Parashar was in need of a heart transplant about three years ago. It took a lot of running from pillar to post for her to figure out what to do and how to go about it. Also at the time there was no one organisation which could guide her through the transplant process.  And so the decision to create the Transplant Guide was taken.

WHAT IS THE TRANSPLANT GUIDE?
Our Transplant Guide is essentially a directory of transplant hospitals, doctors and coordinators across India. It also contains a list of places to stay, labs, chemists, taxis, ambulance and air ambulance services among other facilities around each transplant enabled hospital in the country.

A pan India guide, it will provide information to anyone who requires a transplant or needs to see a doctor in this regard.  This guide will not only include names of the hospitals, doctors and transplant coordinators (along with their contact details), but also accommodation, taxis, chemists, medical suppliers, labs, restaurants, ambulances services etc. all near the hospital they plan to visit.

HOW TO USE THE GUIDE?
The transplant guide is available at our website ORGAN India and can be accessed at the click of a button. Within the drop down menu you will need to pick the city for which you require information and then specify the organ (such as kidney, liver, heart etc) for which you require the data. Once you pick the city and organ, the third drop down menu will give you all the names of the hospitals with transplant centres for the specific organ that you have chosen. You can then click on the hospital of your choice and this will open the complete transplant guide for the chosen hospital (doctors, coordinators, accommodation, taxis, labs, blood banks etc., around that particular hospital).

WHAT WE HOPE TO ACHIEVE THROUGH THIS ESSENTIAL RESOURCE
It has taken us almost a year to get all the mind-boggling information that is required to make this possible, and we have had to do an extensive amount of research. We have also, as far as we could, called each accommodation and checked with them if they allow patients to stay there.

One of our main purposes has been to initiate a nationwide call to action to pledge organs after death, and bring organ donation into the public consciousness to a level that it is an accepted norm. But the other goal, which is equally important, has been to help those in need of organ transplants through our Transplant Guide and Helplines so as to get the right information about the law, procedures, transplant lists, hospitals etc.

For organ recipients, a transplant means a second chance at life. We would like to do our best to ensure that they get a shot at it. Please do forward this information to transplant patients so that they can have at least a base with which to start their journey.

YOUR FEEDBACK IS IMPORTANT TO US
We look forward to your feedback on the Guide. Please do let us know if something has been overlooked, or if a hospital that needs to be added, or any other information you feel would be beneficial.

Great job Ms. Sunayna, I am Dr. Rajneesh Malhotra Chief of Cardiac Surgery at Max hospital Saket, Newdelhi. Is this guide also available in hard copy as well or not? It may help us to circulate it yo our other colleagues as well. We have recently started a successful heart transplant Programme and your help and guidance is really going to help us take this Programme forward and help develop many more heart transplant Programmes in the country. Best wishes for a new initiative, keep it up and take it to next level

A very important resource indeed. Congratulations Sunayana for bringing this out – would be a great service to the patients and their families who have no one really to guide them.
